- Will these fit my truck? What you need to know.
One of the most common questions we hear at B&B Enterprises is: “Will these wheels fit my truck?” It sounds like a simple question, but wheel and tire fitment involves more than just matching the diameter. Two wheels can both be 18 inches and still be completely different when it comes to bolt pattern, offset, width, center bore, load capacity, and brake clearance. Before buying a set of factory wheels and tires, here are the most important things to check. 1. Bolt Pattern Has to Match The bolt pattern tells you two things: the number of wheel studs and the diameter of the circle those studs form. Examples include: 6x135 6x139.7 8x170 8x200 5x127 A wheel with the wrong bolt pattern simply will not bolt onto your vehicle. And even when two trucks look similar, they may use completely different bolt patterns depending on the year, model, or drivetrain. 2. Wheel Diameter Is Only Part of the Story People often start with wheel diameter: “My truck has 18-inch wheels. Will these 18-inch wheels fit?” Maybe—but diameter alone is not enough. You also need to consider: Wheel width Offset Backspacing Center bore Brake clearance Tire size A factory 18-inch wheel designed for one truck may sit too far inward or outward on another truck, even if the bolt pattern is the same. 3. Wheel Offset Matters Offset determines where the wheel sits in relation to the suspension and body of the vehicle. The wrong offset can cause a wheel or tire to: Rub the suspension Contact brake components Stick too far outside the fender Rub the inner fender while turning Affect steering and handling This is one reason we do not recommend buying wheels based on appearance alone. 4. Can I Change From 17-Inch Wheels to 18- or 20-Inch Wheels? In many cases, yes. Truck manufacturers often offer several factory wheel sizes on the same vehicle. For example, the same truck may have been available from the factory with 17-inch, 18-inch, or 20-inch wheels. The important part is matching the wheel with the correct tire size so the overall tire diameter remains reasonably close to the original setup. Maintaining the proper overall diameter helps keep your: Speedometer accurate ABS system working properly Traction control working correctly Transmission shift points close to factory specifications A larger wheel does not automatically mean a larger overall tire. 5. Tire Size Matters Too Even if the wheels fit perfectly, the tires mounted on them may not. A tire that is too tall or too wide can rub during turns or suspension travel. A tire that is too small may affect vehicle height, gearing, speedometer readings, and appearance. When buying a complete wheel-and-tire package, always check the tire size—not just the wheel size. 6. Don't Forget Load Rating This is especially important on pickup trucks. Wheels and tires must be capable of supporting the weight of the vehicle and the loads the truck is designed to carry. A wheel that physically bolts onto a heavy-duty truck is not necessarily rated for that truck. The same applies to tires. For vehicles such as: Ford Super Duty Ram 2500 and 3500 Chevrolet Silverado HD GMC Sierra HD load capacity should always be part of the fitment conversation. 7. Will the TPMS Sensors Work? Most newer vehicles use a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, commonly called TPMS. A set of factory take-off wheels may already contain TPMS sensors, but that does not automatically mean those sensors are compatible with your vehicle. Different years and models may use different frequencies, sensor designs, and programming procedures. Some vehicles automatically recognize new sensors after driving. Others require a relearn or programming procedure. Always ask whether TPMS sensors are included and whether they are compatible with your vehicle. 8. Do I Need Different Lug Nuts? Possibly. Lug nuts vary by: Thread size Seat style Length Diameter Vehicle application Even factory wheels can require a specific style of lug nut. Using the wrong lug nut can prevent the wheel from seating correctly and can damage the wheel or studs. If you are changing wheel styles, it is worth checking your lug nuts before installation. 9. Brake Clearance Can Be a Problem Modern trucks often have large brake calipers. A wheel may have the correct bolt pattern and diameter but still fail to clear the brake system. This can be especially important when trying to install smaller-diameter factory wheels on a truck that originally came with a larger wheel package. 10. Year, Make, Model and Trim Matter When asking whether a wheel will fit, give us as much information as possible. Ideally, we want: YearMakeModelTrim2WD or 4WDCurrent tire size For heavy-duty trucks, knowing whether the truck is a 2500, 3500, single rear wheel, or dually is also important. Sometimes even the VIN can help confirm the correct application. What Are Factory Take-Off Wheels? Many of the wheels and tires we sell at B&B Enterprises are factory take-offs. A take-off is an original equipment wheel or wheel-and-tire package that was removed from a new or nearly new vehicle, often because the owner or dealer upgraded the wheels. That can give customers an opportunity to purchase genuine OEM wheels and tires without paying new-dealer replacement prices. Why Buy From Someone Who Understands Fitment? There are plenty of wheels for sale online. The challenge is determining whether they are actually correct for your vehicle. A wheel can look identical in a photo and still have the wrong: Bolt pattern Offset Center bore Load rating Tire size TPMS sensors At B&B Enterprises, wheels and tires are not a part-time sideline. This is what we do. We work with factory wheels, tires, take-offs, TPMS systems, and truck fitment every day. If you are unsure whether a set will fit your truck, contact us before you buy. A good deal is only a good deal if it fits. Visit 4TiresAndWheelsPlus.com or call B&B Enterprises at 413-382-7128 to see our current inventory of factory wheels, tires, and wheel-and-tire packages.
- OE or Aftermarket Wheels: Which Is the Better Fit for Your Truck?
When customers shop for wheels and tires, one of the most common questions we hear at B&B Enterprises is: “Will these fit my truck?” The answer involves a lot more than just matching the bolt pattern. Wheel diameter, width, offset, tire size, brake clearance, suspension clearance, load capacity, and overall tire diameter can all affect how a wheel and tire package fits your vehicle. That is one of the reasons we are such big fans of OE — Original Equipment — wheels and tires. OE Wheels Are Designed for the Vehicle Factory wheels are engineered specifically for the vehicle they were installed on. The manufacturer has already accounted for things like: Brake caliper clearance Suspension clearance Fender clearance Wheel width Offset Tire size Load requirements Hub fitment Steering geometry When you install the correct OE wheel and tire package for your truck, much of the fitment work has already been done for you. That makes OE wheels one of the easiest ways to upgrade the appearance of your truck while maintaining factory-style fitment. At B&B Enterprises, many of the wheel and tire packages we sell are factory take-offs — wheels and tires that were removed from a new or nearly new vehicle when the original owner upgraded to a different package. That can give you the opportunity to purchase genuine factory wheels and tires without paying dealership replacement prices. Both OE — Original Equipment — wheels and aftermarket wheels can be great choices. The key is understanding how each fits your vehicle and making sure the specifications are correct. Aftermarket Wheels Can Be a Great Alternative We also sell aftermarket wheels, and there are plenty of good aftermarket options available. The important thing is making sure the entire package is properly matched to the vehicle. Two wheels can have the same diameter and bolt pattern but still fit very differently. One reason is wheel width. For example, some OE 20-inch Chevrolet Silverado wheels are approximately 8.5 inches wide, while many aftermarket 20-inch wheels are 9 inches wide. That extra half-inch may not sound like much, but wheel width affects where the inside and outside edges of the wheel sit in relation to the suspension and fender. That means the offset may need to change to keep the wheel positioned properly. Simply matching the factory offset while increasing wheel width does not always produce the same fitment. What Is Wheel Offset? Offset is the distance between the wheel's mounting surface and the centerline of the wheel. Changing offset moves the wheel inward or outward. A wheel with a different width may require a different offset to maintain the desired position inside the wheel well. Too much inward movement can create clearance problems with suspension components. Too much outward movement can cause the tire to extend beyond the fender, change steering characteristics, or create rubbing problems. It is also important to keep local laws in mind. States such as Massachusetts have rules on the books regarding tires and wheels that project beyond the fenders or body of the vehicle, so an overly aggressive wheel setup can potentially create inspection or enforcement issues in addition to fitment concerns. That is why we look at wheel width and offset together, rather than treating them as separate numbers. Bolt Pattern Is Only the Beginning A common mistake when shopping for wheels online is assuming: “The bolt pattern matches, so the wheels will fit.” Unfortunately, that is not always true. Two trucks can share the same bolt pattern while using very different wheel specifications. When determining fitment, we may need to consider: Bolt pattern Wheel diameter Wheel width Offset Center bore Brake clearance Tire size Overall tire diameter Load rating Suspension clearance Fender clearance This becomes even more important when changing from a factory wheel to a wider aftermarket wheel. Why We Like OE Take-Off Packages For many truck owners, OE take-offs offer a great combination of appearance, quality, value, and predictable fitment. You are getting a wheel designed by the vehicle manufacturer for use on that vehicle platform. In many cases, you can move from a smaller factory wheel to a larger factory wheel package while maintaining the look and driving characteristics the manufacturer intended. Factory wheels also tend to look natural on the truck because their size, offset, finish, and styling were designed around the vehicle. For someone who wants a clean upgrade without dramatically changing how the truck drives or sits, OE is often our first recommendation. Aftermarket Still Has Its Place Aftermarket wheels give truck owners far more choices in style, finish, width, and stance. They can be an excellent option when the customer wants something more aggressive or simply wants a look that was never offered by the factory. The key is choosing the right specifications, not just the right bolt pattern. At B&B Enterprises, we sell both OE and aftermarket wheels because there is no single answer that works for every customer. Our goal is to help you choose a wheel and tire package that looks good and fits correctly. Before You Buy, Ask Us If you are looking at a set of wheels or tires and are not sure whether they will fit your truck, contact us before purchasing. Give us your: Year, make, model, trim level, current tire size, and the wheel or tire package you are considering. We can help compare the specifications and determine whether the package is a good match. Because when it comes to wheels and tires, a good deal is only a good deal if it fits. - Cosmo Tires: Big Value, Serious Warranty Protection
At B&B Enterprises, we’re always looking for tires that give our customers the right combination of performance, durability and price. That’s one of the reasons we like Cosmo Tires. Cosmo has built its reputation around what it calls “Quality to Value” — offering capable passenger, performance, SUV and light-truck tires without the premium-brand price tag. But price is only part of the story. Cosmo backs its passenger and light-truck tires with a surprisingly strong warranty package. More Than Just a Basic Tire Warranty Cosmo’s current Hassle-Free Warranty Promise combines three important types of protection: ✓ Limited Workmanship & Materials Warranty✓ Mileage/Treadwear Warranty on qualifying models✓ FREE Road Hazard Warranty on qualifying passenger and light-truck tires That road-hazard coverage is particularly noteworthy because it comes from the tire manufacturer rather than requiring the customer to purchase a separate road-hazard plan. FREE Road Hazard Coverage Potholes, road debris and unexpected impacts happen — especially here in the Northeast. Cosmo’s Road Hazard Warranty covers qualifying tires that become unusable because of a puncture, bruise or impact break caused during normal driving on maintained roads. Coverage applies during the first 25% of the tire’s usable tread life or one year from the purchase date, whichever comes first. When an eligible tire becomes unserviceable during that period, Cosmo provides a replacement tire, subject to the warranty terms. Customers remain responsible for items such as mounting, balancing, shipping, taxes and other applicable service fees. That means you're getting some added protection against one of the most frustrating parts of buying new tires: damaging one shortly after you bought it. Important: Cosmo's Road Hazard Warranty does not apply to every tire category. Trailer/ST, commercial truck, van, industrial, farm, lawn/garden and OTR tires are among the exclusions. Mileage Warranties Up to 70,000 Miles Some examples include: Kurrent – 70,000 miles Road Hunter – 60,000 miles El Tigre AT – 55,000 miles El Jefe HT – 55,000 miles Jefe HTL+ – 55,000 miles Gripit XT/XTB – 50,000 miles Mud Kicker/X – 50,000 miles Nova Tour – 50,000 miles Charge – 50,000 miles Real Cat 17 – 45,000 miles Kat Energy – 45,000 miles Rapido – 40,000 miles Tiger Tail – 40,000 miles Mucho Macho – 30,000 miles For the Kurrent mounted on an electric vehicle, Cosmo currently provides a 40,000-mile warranty. Other Cosmo mileage warranties generally do not apply when the tires are installed on EVs. Mileage warranties are prorated rather than an automatic free replacement. If an eligible tire wears down to its treadwear indicators before reaching its warranted mileage, Cosmo may provide a prorated adjustment toward a replacement tire based on the mileage actually received. Cosmo Also Covers Manufacturing Defects All Cosmo passenger and light-truck tire lines are covered against qualifying failures caused by defects in workmanship or materials for the life of the original tread or five years from the date of purchase, whichever comes first. If an eligible tire fails because of a covered defect, Cosmo provides a prorated allowance toward a comparable new Cosmo tire based on the remaining usable tread. There's One Important Step: Register Your Tires Don't skip the warranty registration. For Cosmo’s current mileage and road-hazard programs, tires must be registered within 45 days of purchase. You'll also want to keep your original purchase receipt and maintenance records. For treadwear warranty eligibility, Cosmo currently requires tires to be professionally rotated every 6,000 miles with verifiable service records. DIY rotations do not qualify. If you have a staggered fitment where the front and rear tires cannot be rotated between axles, the stated mileage warranty is reduced by half. Those details matter. A good warranty is only useful when the requirements are followed. Why B&B Enterprises Likes Cosmo Tires There are plenty of inexpensive tires on the market. Cheap and good value aren't necessarily the same thing. Cosmo gives us another option for customers who want to keep their tire purchase affordable without buying an unknown tire with little manufacturer support behind it. Depending on the model, you're getting a combination of substantial mileage coverage, manufacturing-defect protection and manufacturer-backed road-hazard protection. For many everyday drivers, SUVs and pickups, that's a lot of tire for the money. Looking for Cosmo Tires? Contact B&B Enterprises in Springfield, Massachusetts. Tell us your: Year • Make • Model • Tire Size and we'll help you determine which Cosmo tire fits your vehicle, your driving needs and your budget. Whether you're looking for an everyday highway tire, an all-terrain setup or something more aggressive for your truck, don't assume you need to pay premium-brand prices to get a tire backed by a serious warranty. B&B Enterprises Wheels • Tires • New Take-Offs • More Warranty coverage is provided by Cosmo Tires/Tire Group International and is subject to Cosmo's current eligibility requirements, exclusions and complete warranty terms. Warranty programs and specifications can change. B&B Enterprises recommends registering eligible tires promptly after purchase and retaining all required service records.
